Your IT systems.

Now that you’re running systems on your computers, its important to outline the many different risks that can occur and how they should be managed.

  1. Your computer systems can fail from time to time.

  2. Your computer systems can be hacked.

  3. Your computer systems can power down due to electric outages.

There are many other examples of unintentional issues that can result in a business disruption.

As such there are simple things you can do to manage these things.

  1. Have a cloud back up that keeps a few days of back ups of your critical files saved off site. Its important to think about your single point of failure. What business disruption would occur if your systems failed for whatever reason. An off site back up is the most important thing you can do to secure and safe guard your business. If you have an IT company working on your behalf, ask them to save images of your systems, again off site.

    1. Don't just think about your new Stratum system, also consider your files, policy documents, accounts systems, payroll system, and any other systems your using for your business. Think about the whole business.

  2. Ensure that your team are using Strong Passwords. Every hacker will try “Password” or “password1234” as they know they are the most commonly used by 60% of people. If your are using something like “Password” be creative “P@$$w0rd2022”, it does not have to be difficult, just don't make it easy.

  3. Ensure that your IT provider has a back up plan for you, in case you have a problem. How fast can they set you up, and use your cloud back up to get your systems back up and running quickly. If they say you don’t need a back up in the cloud, it would be advisable to seek another provider, as no-one in their right mind should expose your business to that risk.
